Thank you for your interest in donating funds or items to the West Lafayette Band Department. While our band students work hard to raise the funds we need to grow, there are some items or programs that we still cannot acquire without the assistance of donors. Donations of any amount are gladly accepted. There are several categories of needs, and we invite you to check these out at your leisure. To make a donation, please contact Suzanne Birkhimer, Booster Fundraising Chair, or use the following PayPal button.
There are several instruments needed in a successful band program that are more expensive than our budget usually allows. The purchase of any of these items (or a contribution toward the purchase of that item) helps tremendously:
- Bassoon - $4,000 (need two)
- Mellophone - $800 (need two)
- Marching Baritone - $1,200 (need two)
- Valve Trombone - $1,200 (need two)
- Concert Tuba - $4,000 (need two)
- Baritone Sax - $3,000 (need two)
MARCHING BAND UNIFORMS
As our marching band program continues to grow in size, we are needing to buy new uniforms every year to ensure that each student has a uniform that fits. We bought 60 new uniforms in the Spring of 2014 and in the Fall of 2016 we are expecting to march at least 80 brass, woodwind and percussion students. Each new uniform costs the band boosters about $300.
In the past, the Band Boosters have provided scholarship assistance to students attending summer music camps. We would like to continue this tradition, but add an emphasis on helping students with serious financial need in paying for things like private lessons, instrument supplies such as reeds, and band fees beyond their family's means. Donations to the Band Scholarship fund will provide direct assistance to our students.
In band, sheet music is the textbook from which we learn. One piece of music can cost anywhere from $30 to $200. Please help us build our library in the following levels:
- Elementary: $30
- Junior High: $50
- Symphonic Band: $80
- Wind Ensemble: $120
- FULL CONCERT: $1000 (the conservative cost for Jr/Sr High school band music at four pieces per band)
When in doubt, let us figure out where your donation can be most helpful! The General Fund takes care of things like festival entry fees, uniform repairs and cleaning, student awards, consumable materials, and all the other small details our program needs to thrive. Money from the general fund can be used to supplement any other program within the department.
