Summer Band
The West Lafayette Bands offer 3 levels of summer band for current 5th through 8th grade students. The Advanced Band is for students who have completed 2 or more years of band. The Intermediate Band is open to students with 1 or more years of playing. We also have a neat tradition of giving older students (2 or more years) the ability to learn an approved secondary instrument in intermediate. To do this, the student MUST also be enrolled in Advanced Band on their primary instrument (no extra cost to do this!). Lastly, we have our Beginning Band for new incoming 5th graders.
Summer band rehearsals begin in early June and meet weekdays through the middle of June. All rehearsals take place in the high school band room and there will be a concert to showcase all of the summer programs. The music we play in summer is VERY different from traditional concert music…usually pop songs, movie themes, video game music and more exciting, fun and unique music!
9:30 am – 11:00 am: Advanced Band (2 or more years of band experience)
11:00 am – 12:30 pm: Intermediate Band (1 or more years of band experience)
12:30 pm – 2:00 pm: Beginning Band (new to band)
Summer Band is an excellent opportunity to develop and refine playing skills during the “off” months. The fee for participation in the summer band program is $115 per student. In addition, Monday, June 22 will be an optional trip to Indiana Beach/Malibu Jacks for all summer students at an additional small cost. I hope you join us for a really fun time!
