WLIS Beginning Band

The Beginning Band is the foundation of the entire West Lafayette band department. The vast majority of students are in the fifth grade; fourth graders are not allowed in the beginning band, and sixth graders must take this class in conjunction with private lessons in order to catch up with their grade. Each student meets two days per week during the school day. Emphasis is on building music literacy skills, playing technique, and rhythmic independence. The Beginning Band performs at the winter concert and the spring band festival.
